Saddle Up is a life skills course that uses horses to teach respect, empathy and teamwork. The students work towards a variety of AQA Unit Awards, from basic through to advanced equine skills.
Our students find being with the horses relaxing, this helps to improve their well-being and with this we can raise the aspirations of young people. It is good to see their progression, naturally cautious to begin with on the provision, however soon realising that with determination they can achieve so much. We teach in the safe environment of a large indoor arena, and when their riding reaches the standard required, the students experience riding out on a quiet bridleway.
The students enjoy the freedom of riding a horse which not only is great physical exercise, but also boosts mental health, as you have to stay focussed on the present concentrating entirely on you and the horse.
The lead for Saddle Up is Mel Redman.
