Careers Education at North Herts Education Support Centre
Please find below details of our Careers activities for the Spring Term:
Our Key Stage 4 students have been busy working on their employability skills with a specialist support team from the Department of Work and Pensions.
As part of the planned programme, they are visiting (Briar Patch on Tuesday 5th Feb / Bancroft on Wednesday 6th Feb ‘19), to carry out a mock interview with each student. Students will be given supportive feedback on their performance; what went well and the areas that require improvement.
Students will be assessed on the following aspects of their interview:
- First impressions: offering a handshake and greeting the interviewer positively.
- Positive self-portrayal: clear, confident voice and positive answers.
- Non – verbal skills: positive body language and eye contact.
- Verbal skills and Content: clear and concise answers including relevant examples.
- Leadership and work-readiness: confident, mature and enthusiastic attitude.
_____________’s interview has been arranged as follows:
Name of Student
Each interview will take approximately 15 minutes. A copy of the students CV should be bought to the interview for discussion. Students will be completing their CVs at school prior to this.
An Introduction to Apprenticeships
A workshop has been arranged with a local Apprenticeship Specialist for the Key Stage 4 students, due to take place at each site during the school day on 28th March. This session will be of particular interest to those students thinking about moving on to an Apprenticeship or those who just want to find out a bit more information.
College Open Evening
North Herts College are holding an Open Evening on Wednesday 6th February 5pm -7.30pm across all campuses. This will be an excellent opportunity to tour the facilities, meet the staff, get a taste of student life and ask those all important questions. Further details can be found on the college website https://www.nhc.ac.uk. NHESC shall also try and organise visits and college taster sessions later in the term.
NHESC shall be holding a Careers Fair on Thursday 21st March from 12 – 2pm. This shall be held at the Bancroft Site and it is expected that all Key Stage 4 students will attend. (Transport will be organised for the Briar Patch students). The Fair will be an opportunity to polish CV’s, speak to our Connexions advisor, apply for College courses or Apprenticeships, speak to local Employers and meet a selection of past students who are enjoying their careers in a range of vocations.
