Keeping In Touch
Punctuality and attendance are taken very seriously, both are recorded accurately and rewarded with termly and yearly presentations. As the parent or carer you must contact us on the day of your son/daughter's absence otherwise absence will be recorded as unauthorised. We also need a letter or telephone call to notify us of any medical or other appointments during school hours. It is your legal responsibility to ensure that your son/daughter attends school regularly and on time. Non attendance will be recorded and action taken with the Attendance Improvement Officer. In certain circumstances this could include the use of fixed penalty noices which, in turn could result in a fine and a criminal record. Should your child fail to arrive at the Centre on time, a phone call will be made to establish where they are. If we cannot contact the parent or emergency contact, a non-emergency 101 call will be made to the Police.
NHESC lets both parents/carers and the mainstream school know about progress throughout the year at Interim Reviews held approximately 8 weeks into the placement, Termly Progress Reports, and Annual Reports. Parents/carers are invited to the student consultation events where you can not only hear about your son/daughters progress but also talk to connexions advisers about future career plans.
There are lots of other opportunities for you to join in events at NHESC for example our Xmas Fayre and the year 11 Leavers Presentation. NHESC has an open door policy and welcome you at any time to phone or pop in to see us.
Our mainstream colleagues not only receive all the above reports but also come into NHESC to hear how well students from their school are doing. We give them a half termly attendance report and inform them daily if a student does not attend and we cannot make contact with the parent or carer. They also enjoy attending all our events and pop in to see how well students are progressing.
