Key Stage 4 Hospitality

Key stage 4 students will have the opportunity to work towards achieving a BTEC Level 1 Introduction to the Hospitality Industry (Award / Certificate).

Purpose of the qualification

This qualification aims to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to prepare and present a wide range of food products, including a variety of multi-cultural dishes. Students will gain an insight into the Hospitality Industry and learn about Customer Service. Students will become confident in selecting, handling and cleaning a wide range of kitchen equipment. Students will also learn about different food commodities, their nutritive value and healthy eating guidelines.

Requirements

To achieve an Award – students’ needs to demonstrate competence in the following units:

  • Basic Food Preparation
  • Basic Cooking
  • Introduction to the Hospitality Industry
  • Customer Service in the Hospitality Industry
  • Using kitchen Equipment

To achieve a Certificate – students need to complete two additional units:

  • Food Commodities
  • Healthy Eating

Progression and preparation for further study Students who work towards achieving the BTEC Level 1 Introduction to the Hospitality Industry will have the opportunity to complete a work experience placement. The intended destinations for learners successfully achieving this qualification includes: • GCSEs and/or A Levels • Catering based course at Post 16 • Apprenticeships This qualification may also enhance student self-development by providing them with valuable life skills.
